On August 5th, 2000 Geraldine Gates along with two men she introduced as
"Investigators" came to the home of Barry and Traci Springer. One of
the two men was Ric Osuna. Mrs. Gates told the Springers she was retaining
Mr. Barry Scheck as an attorney for Ronald DeFeo jr. and needed to obtain
his legal work. The reason for this visit, the Springers possessed
all of Ronald 's legal material pertaining to his case.
Approximately one hour into their visit, Traci Springer made out a list of
everything that was taken by Geraldine Gates and Ric Osuna, unbeknownst to
them at the the time under false pretenses. On November 30th 2000,
Geraldine and Ric came to visit Ronald in Greenhaven Correctional Facility.
The visit lasted no more than 90 minutes, not the six hours Ric claims
in his book. Upon learning the true nature of this visit, which was
the writting of a book, Ronald stormed out of the visiting room,
and several inmates signed affidavits to this fact.
Immediately Ronald sends Barry and Traci Springer a letter explaining they
both have just been conned again by Geraldine Gates. Among the items
that were taken were audio and video tapes, that have never been returned
to this day, along with other important material and information regarding
his case.
On January 8th 2001, Ronald DeFeo files a formal complaint against Geraldine
Gates and Ric Osuna to the Attorney General's Office of how they acquired
his legal material in a fraudulent manner under false pretenses. They
never had his consent, nor where they investigators for Barry Scheck as they
claimed.
On April 9th 2001, Ronald DeFeo files a Criminal Complaint against Geraldine
Gates and Ric Osuna, for the crime of Criminal Impersonation, Solicitation
without a license, and misrepresentation with Intent to commit the act of
Fraud. Upon misrepresentation and false pretense, Mr. Osuna and Mrs.
Gates did enter the home of Mr. Barry Springer and proceed to gather up and
take Ronald's legal documents pertaining to his Criminal Case, which happened
in Amityville N.Y. in 1974.
Articles which included video tapes, transcripts of Ronald's trial,
his grandmother's will, affidavits, and other material for his case.
On May 11th 2001, Ronald writes yet another letter to the District Attorney
of Suffolk County. In his complaint, he details the false accusations
of Mrs. Gates claiming Stephanie Pisani is Ronald DeFeo's child, and the
fact Ric Osuna still intends to write his book regardless of what Ronald
has to say about it.
On November 9th 2001, Attorney Alvin Goldstein sent Geraldine Gates and Ric
Osuna a letter of Cease and Desist to stop Ric Osuna from contacting the
NY State parole board, Superintendent of Greenhaven CF, and Ronald's counselor
which he considered to be of a harassing nature.
On August 6th 2003, Ronald files a lawsuit in the Southern District Court
in N.Y. Honorable Judge Loretta Preska presiding, against Ric Osuna and the
publishers for his book. The Lawsuit is still pending against
Ric Osuna, but unfortunately for Ronald Judge Preska granted a dismissal
for the publishers citing Ronald is libel proof and therefore his reputation
can't be anymore tarnished than it already is. However; Ronald DeFeo
will proceed against Ric Osuna for fraud.
In 2003, Ronald files suit against Geraldine Gates in the Supreme Court of
New York. Judge Sproat dismissed the case, because Ronald sued for
defamation and slander. Again citing libel proof. He should have
sued Geraldine Gates for fraud. During this time however; Ronald was
in a hospital fighting for his life and could not defend the case against
her. However; Ronald has every intention to refile this case.
